SPIRITUAL RACE DURING SEVERE CHALLENGES

LENT 40 day time – Day 29

Scripture reading: “I have run the good race; I reached the finish line; I faithfully persevered to the end. Now the victor’s crown awaits me, life with God.” 2 Timothy 4:7,

During Lent, as we consider our spiritual journey, we are reminded of the trials and obstacles experienced by those around us. In particular, I am drawn to the image of a dear friend struggling with terminal cancer. He and his dear family’s journey is not merely a physical one, but a spiritual race against doubt and temptation. It is a struggle to maintain faith and trust in God’s goodness and love in the midst of great suffering.

Imagine the race they run, confined to a bed but struggling with inner battles that surpass any physical challenge. Their struggle to find peace and contentment in God amidst the pain and uncertainty they face is a testimony to the strength of their faith. It’s a race that many of us will never fully understand, but it’s one that demands our empathy and support.

As we meditate on their journey, let us also consider our own spiritual race. Do we nurture our faith and trust in God, even in the midst of life’s trials? Are we running with perseverance, with our focus on the ultimate prize of eternal life with Him? Let us take inspiration from the words of Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7, as he declares his victory by keeping the faith in the midst of his own obstacles.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we lift up all who are going through the race of terminal illness. Give them the strength and courage to persevere, and may they find peace in the knowledge that You are with them every step of the way. Help us to support and encourage them on their journey, and may we also keep the faith in all circumstances. Amen.

Reflection:

  1. In what ways can we support and cheer up those facing terminal illness or other significant challenges?
  2. What steps can we take to strengthen our own faith and trust in God, especially during difficult times?
