FRIDAY, 7 FEBRUARY 2025 – THE REBUKE OF A SINCERE FRIEND IS PRECIOUS
Proverbs 27:6 – “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”

Criticism is difficult for most of us to accept. Even well-intended, constructive criticism can trigger our defence mechanisms, making us prepare a reaction rather than an open, honest self-evaluation. We often do not see ourselves as we truly are and tend to judge ourselves more leniently than we would judge others.
When correction comes from a sincere friend, it may initially hurt. It is uncomfortable to be confronted with our shortcomings. But if we are willing to listen with an open heart, we often discover life lessons that help us grow. The words of a true friend are like a sharp knife that cuts away unnecessary burdens—painful, yet essential for healing and growth.
Not all criticism deserves our attention. Some words are merely destructive and should roll off us like water off a duck’s back. However, some criticism is valuable—especially when it comes from those who love and know us. A true friend has no hidden agenda; they speak the truth in love. They see us for who we truly are and still choose to stand by our side. Such words are a precious treasure, like pearls found on a beach.
A good habit is to occasionally ask a trusted friend, “How am I really doing?” It takes courage to ask this question and even more courage to listen honestly. Even if it is not easy to hear, the right answer is proof of their love and sincerity.
True friendship is not measured by how many “likes” we get online but by those who truly know us—our strengths as well as our weaknesses—and still choose to stand by us. In a world of superficial relationships, a friend who corrects you in love is an invaluable blessing. Cherish them, appreciate them, and strive to be that kind of friend to someone else.
Tips
- Be an honest and loving friend – Speak the truth with grace and be willing to have difficult conversations.
- Receive correction with humility – Be open to accepting rebuke from a friend, as it is a sign of true love and care.
PRAYER Lord, thank You for the friends You have placed in my life. Help me to be an honest and loving friend, and grant me the wisdom to accept correction with a humble heart. May my friendships reflect Your honor and love. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN
