TRIBUTE AT THE MEMORIAL / FUNERAL OF A CHILD (2 – 12)

Ladies and gentlemen, Bereaved Parents and family. dear friends and extended family,
No one ever expects to stand before a gathering like this, saying a final goodbye to a child. It is a heartbreaking reality that we are here today, mourning the loss of someone so young, so full of life and promise. Their futures should stretch out before them, like a book waiting to be written—but today, we find ourselves at an ending far too soon.
We gather here in sorrow, in love, and in remembrance of [Child’s Name], a beautiful soul taken from us far too soon. Though our hearts are heavy, we come together to honour and celebrate the time we were blessed to share with [him/her].
Although [Child’s Name] was with us for only a short time, the impact [he/she] had on our lives was immense. [He/She] had a way of brightening even the darkest days with a smile, a laugh, or the simplest gesture of love.
I remember [share a special memory—perhaps a funny moment, a sweet habit, or a unique trait that made the child special]. [He/She] had an incredible way of making everyone around [him/her] feel important and loved, whether it was through [describe an endearing trait, such as always giving hugs, making up silly songs, or insisting on wearing mismatched socks].
Though our time with [Child’s Name] was brief, [his/her] presence was a gift—a gift that brought joy, love, and unforgettable memories to all who knew [him/her].
I know that each of us here carries our own special memories of [Child’s Name]. I encourage you to hold onto those moments, to let them remind you of the happiness and love that [he/she] brought into the world.
In times like this, it is hard to find the right words, because nothing we say can take away the pain of such a loss. Grief is overwhelming, and it is okay to feel sorrow, anger, confusion—there are no rules for how to mourn the loss of a child.
Our hearts go out to [parents’ names], to [his/her] siblings, grandparents, and all who loved [Child’s Name]. We stand with you in this time of grief, offering our love, our prayers, and our unwavering support.
Though today it feels impossible to find comfort, in time, we will remember [Child’s Name] not just with tears, but with smiles. We will celebrate the love [he/she] shared with us and the lessons [he/she] unknowingly taught us—the importance of living with joy, of loving without hesitation, and of cherishing every precious moment we have with those we love.
[Child’s Name]’s time here was brief, but [he/she] made a difference. [He/She] touched our hearts, left us with memories to treasure, and showed us the purest form of love. That love does not end today—it will stay with us, guiding us, comforting us, and reminding us of the beautiful soul we were lucky to know.
Closing Poem
Though you are gone, your light remains,
A spark of joy in love’s sweet chains.
A whisper soft, a memory bright,
Guiding us through darkest night.
You danced, you laughed, you shone so true,
A love so pure, forever new.
And though the pain may never cease,
We trust you rest in perfect peace.
Sleep well, dear child, in Heaven’s embrace,
Forever cherished, forever in grace.
Rest in peace, dear [Child’s Name]. Though you were taken from us far too soon, your love and light will live on in the hearts of those who knew you. You will never be forgotten. Thank you all for being here today to honour the life of [Child’s Name] and to support one another through this difficult time. May we find comfort in love, in faith, and in the cherished memories of this precious child.
