THE GOSPEL AND CLIMATE CHANGE
From July 15 to 21, 2024, we will be offering a new series of daily devotions with the theme: The Gospel and Climate Change. During this week, I, along with you, will reflect on the environment, climate, and climate change, all within the context of the gospel and our faith.
Climate change is a topic that often evokes intense emotions and diverse opinions. People often have very strong views on this matter, which can simplify the discussion to a question of right or wrong. There is also a great deal of confusion surrounding the environment. We are currently witnessing various natural phenomena indicating that change is indeed happening. The sea levels are rising, we are experiencing extreme droughts and rainfall, and even extreme cold, as we are currently experiencing in South Africa. Last summer, there were extreme heatwaves again.
It is notable that not only Christians are advocating for the environment. Many non-Christians are calling for careful stewardship of the earth, while some Christians seem to care little about the environment. In this series, we will explore how the gospel provides us with guidelines on how we should care for the environment. We will approach this sensitive topic with respect and understanding, hoping that these devotions will help us gain a deeper understanding of our responsibility towards God’s creation.
